Membership policies
Can Two Families Share a Freedom Boat Club Membership?
Sometimes. Household captains, Family & Friends plans, guests, and operators are not the same thing.

The answer in one sentence
Most memberships typically allow a second captain from the same household, while some clubs offer a Family & Friends plan for up to four people; Tennessee availability must be confirmed locally.
- Second household captain is common
- Some plans allow up to four
- Guests are not automatically operators
Start by separating captains from guests.
Freedom has an unlimited guest policy as long as the member is aboard and the vessel’s capacity is not exceeded. Guest access does not automatically make someone an authorized captain or allow independent reservations.
The person operating must satisfy membership, training, age, and legal requirements.
Plan structure determines who can reserve.
Freedom’s FAQ says most memberships include a second captain from the same household, typically a spouse. It also says some clubs offer a Family & Friends plan allowing up to four people to share a membership.
Because “some clubs” is not a Tennessee guarantee, ask which plans are currently offered, who may make reservations, and whether each captain needs separate training.
Choose the arrangement you will actually use.
If two households expect to boat independently, a guest-based approach may not fit. If one household will reserve and host most outings, the standard guest policy may be enough.
Put every operator and reservation expectation in writing before joining. The cleanest plan is the one whose rules already match the relationship.
